Nearly 200 South-Londoners rallied and marched to demand the eviction of BAE Systems from the Blue Fin building in Southwark yesterday (January 20th).
Only two weeks after the campaign “Shut BAE Down” began, the afternoon event which took place in front of and around of the Blue Fin Building on the theme of Art vs. Arms was a big success. A true coming together of the community, people of all ages, and speakers representing different activist groups.

Speakers included representatives of: Stop the War, Lambeth Unison, Architects for Gaza, Jewish Voice for Labour, Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism!, Lambeth National Education Union, the University and College Union, and Lambeth and Wandsworth Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
A massive banner saying “Stop Arming Israel” was dropped.
Children had a banner-making and colouring-in station to make their own placards. Food was dispensed by the indispensable Hari Krishnas (Food For All UK). Music was played by two fantastic groups: Orchestrated Discontent and Rhythms Of Resistance.

Orchestrated Discontent led a beautiful parade in the area around the Blue Fin Building as the campaign representative handed out letters to the managers of businesses in the area to inform them about BAE Systems’ role in the genocide conducted in Gaza and why the campaign is demanding their eviction.

A riveting performance was given by Palestine Pulse and an open mic was offered at the end for people to express their solidarity and inform the community about other actions taking place.
There were no arrests or any incidents at any stage of the event. The protest was peaceful, powerful, creative and clear in its demands:
For the Blue Fin to evict BAE Systems, and a Ceasefire Now!
